Grey is the new Black or the new Sexy, depending on how you look at it… Though the books and upcoming movie have nothing to do with hair color, we can’t help but notice a distinct trend in pairing GREY with provocative. Here’s our take on the pun.
Here at Interlocks, we stress the importance of education. Our service providers are given multiple opportunities throughout the year for professional growth. We offer in-house trainings with educational teams representing a specific product line; we host Guest Artist Events as part of our ongoing commitment to education; we attend trade show classes taught by leading professionals in the U.S.; and we even travel abroad to such venues as London and Milan to learn from premiere educators.
Advanced education is not just something we emphasize, rather it’s a cornerstone of our business philosophy. With that in mind, we are thrilled to announce a new staff achievement!
Recently, Wella selected Interlocks Associate Stylist Christine Soucy as a Professional Training Specialist. After choosing her as one of its new 2013 Educators, Wella invited Christine to attend the Wella Connect 2013 Show in Las Vegas. This invitation-only show and training allowed Christine to meet about 30 of her Boston-area peers, as well as hundreds of other professionals from around the country.
During the three-day, invitation-only training, Christine attended a color class that showcased new Wella color products launching in the Fall. She also attended a cutting class taught by industry notable Nick Berardi. Christine says that this class provided her with many “Ah ha” moments. She explains, “These cuts were about precision, and learning from Berardi was a great lesson in why it is important to continually check your own body position, as well as that of the client.” For Christine, the show’s highlight came early on Day 2, when she attended a class taught by Christopher Dove, whom Christine describes as “phenomenal.” She adds, “He has long been one of my idols. To be able to learn from him was an opportunity of a lifetime.”
The Wella Connect show was just one of three that Christine attended during her week in Las Vegas. She also saw the Wella Trend Vision Show and attended the Cosmoprof North America Show with INTERLOCKS Owner/Creative Director Ginny Eramo.
Christine says her educational experience was inspirational. “It was amazing to meet people that I have seen in magazines,” she says. “These are our industry stars! To have the opportunity to interact with them and work with them as peers, it was just a remarkable experience.”
For Christine, the advanced education permits her to represent Wella across the country in a teaching capacity. Her INTERLOCKS clients benefit as well since she’s able to share her first-hand knowledge from the Wella professional trainings. Additionally, INTERLOCKS enjoys exclusive access to Wella’s new products, techniques, and color treatments before reaching a broader market. “My clients are so excited!” Christine says. “I’m really looking forward to keeping them informed with new trends.”
As Autumn takes hold, we’re longing for our summertime sun-kissed/dewy complexion. In New England, summer rolls swiftly into Fall, and so begins our search for a palette that complements our transitioning skin.
Enter BECCA, an Australian cosmetics line known for providing not only multiple color options, but also varying products so that “everyone on the planet can find their perfect foundation in their perfect shade.” Their entire line embraces a belief that foundation is the most important cosmetics item in your makeup bag. As a result, their cosmetics are guaranteed to contain your most appropriate shade and deliver a perfect finish.
We’ve had a few weeks now to “play” with the new BECCA products and we’re finding that the luminosity of these new foundations is just what our skin is craving. From the Radiant Skin Satin Finish Foundation to Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation, we love how the face looks airbrushed, no photo editing needed! Our Makeup Artists can’t stop praising the Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, which is hands down (or faces down :) the new go-to product for its ability to turn your face into a sublime canvas that’s smooth, matte, and pore-free!
With this Fall’s color palette, BECCA intrigues us with a play on their usual earth tones. The deep berries, soft mosses, dark plums, and dusky rose shades are ideal complements to this transitional time of year. The array of application choices is also helpful, as it’s nice to have options! Cheeks can be brushed with Mineral Blush or gently rubbed with Beach Tint for a natural wash of color, making you forget the days are getting shorter. The new Ultimate Eye Colour Quads provide a plethora of color choices and their Ultimate Crème Eyeliner, which we absolutely adore for its versatility, can further enhance eyes. These handy little pods make for easy application; the crème glides on with such precision and provides a dramatic allure, especially for evening. Lips can remain hydrated, but still chic with BECCA’s new Ultimate Matte Lip Colour, which imparts intense color from tall, silver straws. If shine is more your look, you’ll delight in the weightless (really, it’s not sticky!) bold pigments of Ultimate Colour Gloss. There are ten shades available and we dare you to leave with just one.
We first introduced BECCA to Interlocks clients at our launch in January 2011, and we’re excited to announce a “relaunch” of sorts on September 21st. We’ve invited Jonida Dundi, a BECCA Makeup Artist, who will work alongside our talented cosmetics team. In sessions lasting 60 minutes, they’ll teach you how to find you’re perfect shade and help you discover ways to show off your best complexion. Interlocks will offer only three 60 minute sessions (9:30am, 12pm, & 2:30pm) each will be intimate (no more than five clients at a time), so each participant has time to ask questions and test color shades. Please call 978-465-3010 to reserve your appointment.* At your scheduled appointment you’ll receive a swag bag worth over $150! And throughout September, we’ll be offering free makeup consultations with our own Makeup Artists and where you’ll enjoy a free gift with BECCA purchase.
We invite you to embrace the season’s change! As you transition your wardrobe to fall, our Cosmetics Team is happy to guide you in making the perfect autumn color choices. Even slight changes, such as a new BECCA lip gloss, can make a big impact. And learning how to choose the right colors and perfect your application techniques, either at our September BECCA event or a follow-up appointment, will allow you to seamlessly maintain that summertime radiance, well into the next season.
*We require a $50 deposit to schedule your class. Your deposit can be applied toward BECCA cosmetic purchases. Note that our cancelation policy requires a 24-hour notice for a refund of this deposit.
We are LOVING the soft, tousled hairstyles we’re seeing so much of this summer. In the fashion magazines, on Pinterest, and even in the Fall Runway shows, waves are definitely “in.” And not just for summer anymore!
To us, the best part of this trend is its versatility. Whether short or long, loose flowing waves are an easy, uncontrived look that anyone can wear.
Our clients adore that these looks can be achieved at home, easily!
We asked Interlocks Senior Stylist Melissa Clark, who frequently wears soft, tousled waves herself, for some styling tips.
Melissa says not to blow-dry your hair too smooth. She avoids using a round brush, opting instead to dry the base first; this is easily done with your head upside down. She often lets her hair air-dry, sometimes even the night before. Melissa adds that waves are a great way to spruce up next-day hair, and furthermore a great option if you don’t want to wash and style your hair all at once.
At Interlocks, we recently introduced a new line of styling tools that make achieving this look even easier!
The T3 line of tools is a fantastic addition to our Beauty Apothecary. The T3 line uses new technology that allows for faster drying times, “one pass” styling, frizz and static reduction, and an astonishingly overall healthier head of hair. Of course, their marketing says it all: “The Science Of Fabulous.”
Check out this great video about their products:
Melissa prefers using the T3 Single Pass Whirl. She recommends making a quick part in the back of your hair and loosely tying off one side with an elastic or clip, so you’re only styling one side at a time. In small sections, wrap your hair around a wand (you can also use a wide curling iron) and roll away from your face.
“Try not to put too many curls in,” Melissa advises. “Less is definitely more. Besides, you can always add more curls if you need to.”
She has more professional styling tips to offer, too, including spraying each section prior to curling. Melissa likes using Redken Hot Set Spray or Thermafuse Uphold. And, she continues, wait for the hair to cool prior to touching your curls. In fact, she adds with a sly smile, “Don’t touch the curls at all! Just flip your head upside down and use two or three fingers to feather out the hair from your scalp.” She guarantees the result will be tousled perfection.
Here’s a handy how-to video on achieving the look with this styling tool.
